THE TEAM BEHIND THE FERNMARK

The FernMark Licence Programme is managed by New Zealand Story Group who are also responsible for the protection of our national symbol, the FernMark.

The New Zealand Story Group's purpose is to inspire, curate and amplify storytelling to expand New Zealand's reputation and value internationally. Our goal is to maintain and expand what New Zealand is known for to improve knowledge, consideration, favourability, and preference for New Zealand products and services.

New Zealand Story creates quality resources to provide exporters, the Government and its agencies with the tools, skills and knowledge to communicate more consistent and compelling stories about New Zealand to shift perceptions, open doors and grow opportunities.

The development of New Zealand Story Group was led by Tourism New Zealand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Education New Zealand, with extensive input from over 200 leaders from the primary sector, manufacturing, Māori, export industry, education and wider government services; through a series collaborative and robust private and public sector workshops. The story was then tested for relevance and authenticity in a range of international markets across both business and consumer audiences.

New Zealand Story Group is led by Chief Executive, David Downs. The New Zealand Story Advisory Board is led by Paul Brock, former Kiwibank Group Chief Executive, and consists of six representatives from the public sector and three from the private sector.

WHAT THE FERNMARK
REPRESENTS TO
CUSTOMERS

The FernMark represents the story of who we are and where we're from, our New Zealand Story. Underpinning this story are three core characteristics - kaitiaki, integrity, resourcefulness - which describe our attitude and way of doing things; a unique approach that is highly valued by our customers.

WHAT IT MEANS
TO CARRY
THE FERNMARK

A licence to bear the FernMark is formal recognition of a business's role as an ambassador of the New Zealand Story. It is a privileged role, requiring a business to responsibly represent New Zealand offshore and always protect the well-being and reputation of our country.

TELLING OUR
NEW ZEALAND
STORY

The New Zealand Story brings to life the distinctly Kiwi attributes that make us unique and helps us communicate our value to the world. It connects what the world already knows about our country with the things they love about us as people, and reveals our innovative and creative spirit.
