The FernMark Licence Programme is a government-backed country-of-origin accreditation programme, designed to promote and protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s products and services on a global scale.

The FernMark logo is recognised by people around the world as a unique and trusted symbol of provenance and authenticity. For New Zealand Mānuka honey producers, it provides a level of consumer assurance and promotes the New Zealand Mānuka brand.

The FernMark complements other honey grading certification standards by providing a government-backed stamp of authenticity. It guarantees Mānuka honey products are 100% of New Zealand.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE?

The FernMark Licence Programme is open to New Zealand honey producers and businesses who are focused on international markets, committed to telling their New Zealand provenance story.

To qualify for a FernMark Licence, honey businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Be GST registered in New Zealand.

  • Be compliant with all New Zealand laws and relevant regulations (including food safety laws).

  • Be of good character and repute.

  • Have a substantial level of New Zealand ownership, governance and full-time employees.

  • Have been exporting for a minimum of 12 months, and

  • Own or control the products and brands it is applying for.

Each honey product must also:

  • Be made and processed in New Zealand from New Zealand sourced honey, and

  • Meet the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) ‘Mānuka Honey Science Definition’ if the product is Mānuka honey.

ANNUAL LICENCE FEES

A FernMark Licence is valid for three years and may be renewed every three years. The licence fee is invoiced annually and based on five tiers that relate to the overall annual revenue of your business. The licence fee covers our Licensees for an unlimited number of approved products or services you wish to carry the FernMark. You can apply to have additional products and services approved at any time during the licence term, at no extra cost.

All licence fees are used to cover the costs of the Programme, including the promotion and protection of the brand equity associated with the FernMark trade mark.
